FreeStyle: A hand-painted Artist Edition
This one-of-a-kind artist edition, titled "Halo," is a fashion-inspired basketball and artistic expression custom-made by Hilary Bankz in collaboration with Round21. The piece serves as a heartfelt homage to Hilary's aunts who have passed away, honoring their memory through her art. We are thrilled to be working with Hilary Bankz, a talented North Carolina artist!
STORY:
From the Artist: I created this piece to showcase my love of fashion and sports. I also wanted to honor my aunt and two grandmothers who passed away recently. Sports and fashion continue to unite us and there will always be a strong intersection between the two forces. I’m all about expressing myself and what I love through my artistic endeavors.
THE ARTIST:
Shardae Simpson (Hilary Bankz) is a visual artist and graphic designer from Currie, North Carolina. Her love of art was discovered at a young age with sketchbooks dating back to 2005. In 2011, she attended Living Arts College where she majored in Photography. After one semester, she decided to pursue visual arts professionally. In the beginning of her art career, she created illustrations and graphic art showcasing her love of urban 90s culture. In 2012, she entered the realm of graphic design where she created logos, flyers, and album covers for various clients including Empire Records, Adobe, Blaque and Van Van. Her work has been featured on a billboard and various publications. Her art fuses her adoration of music, basketball, and all things vintage. She specializes in digital and traditional art, graphic design, and creative direction. In 2017, she started a multidisciplinary art company called YKYB Studio which provides visual art and creative directing services for clients.
